ODOS CONSULTING is an Athens based Design Firm engaged in conducting studies and providing consultancy services for clients of both the public and private sector in the engineering markets of Greece, SW Europe and Middle East.
The Firm’s key expertise is the geometric design of Road Projects. In this field, ODOS CONSULTING demonstrates significant experience, acquired through the design of a wide-range of numerous projects both in Greece and abroad. These projects have been designed during the last 15 years within a framework of contracts awarded to the company by Greek and foreign Public services and major Greek construction companies. Many of these projects have already been constructed or are currently under construction.
Most of the Firm’s motorway design experience derives from the design of 50km of the Egnatia Motorway, a 670km mega-project across the North Greek Regions of Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace, connecting the port of Igumenitsa at the west with the Greek-Turkish borders at the east. ODOS CONSULTING has been cooperating with EGNATIA ODOS SA, a State owned company, responsible for the design, construction and operation of Egnatia Motorway, since the mid-ninenties, as an independent Consulting / Designer Firm. Most of the contracts awarded to ODOS CONSULTING involved the investigation of alternative alignments, as well as the detailed design of highly problematic sections of the Motorway, on the extreme mountainous terrain of the western Section of Egnatia Motorway, crossing Pindos alpine environment. In the framework of the EGNATIA SA contracts awarded to ODOS CONSULTING, the Firm designed :
- 120km of motorway alternative alignments
- 50km of motorway detailed design
- 4 Interchanges (preliminary and detailed design)
- 15 Tunnels (detailed geometric design of tunnel / Service Building access roads, vehicle / pedestrian escape tunnels, etc.), with a total length of 15km
- 20 Bridges (detailed geometric design of the bridge deck carriageways, access roads, etc.)
- 1 Toll Station
- 20km of of local roads (restoring existing traffic connections, access roads)
- 5 At-grade intersections / Roundabouts
- 20km of Signing and Fencing
The most distinguished project completed by the Firm for EGNATIA ODOS SA (2008-2012), is the design of the Thessaloniki Ring Road. ODOS CONSULTING was the leading designer of
- the 2nd and 3rd Sections of the Thessaloniki External Ring Road (~23km out of the ~36km of the entire project)
- the upgrade of the Eastern Section of the existing Thessaloniki Ring Road with the provision of the construction of an elevated expressway (viaduct ~4,5km long) aligned parallel with the existing carriageway (a project called "Thessaloniki Flyover").
In the framework of the contracts awarded to the Firm for the design of the Thessaloniki Ring Road (external Ring Road as well as upgrading of the existing Ring Road), ODOS CONSULTING designed :
- 120km of motorway / expressway alternative alignments (preliminary design)
- 35km of motorway /expressway detailed design
- 35 Interchanges (preliminary design)
- 15 Interchanges (detailed design)
- 5 Tunnels (detailed geometric design of tunnel / Service Building access roads, vehicle / pedestrian escape tunnels, etc.), with a total length of 6km
- 15 Bridges (detailed geometric design of the bridge deck carriageways, access roads, etc.)
- 17km of local roads (restoring existing traffic connections, access roads)
Road Design Studies are elaborated by the Firm using ODOS V8 software, the most advanced road design software in the greek market, developed by ΟDOS SOFTWARE, the sister company of ODOS CONSULTING. ODOS V8 is the official road design software of the Ministry of Public Works of the Greek State. as well as the Public Works Department of the Republic of Cyprus. More than a thousand Design Firms / Contractors / Public Services use today ODOS software in Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Albania, Serbia and FYROM.
ODOS CONSULTING is actively participating in the development of ODOS V8, through specifying and thorough testing of innovative automatic design procedures, implemented in the software. This is a key advantage of the Firm against the competition, allowing for rapid as well as integrated conducting of high quality consistent designs. In this process the company’s extensive collaboration with Greek Technical Universities is essential both in research and educational activities.
Apart from road design, the company specializes in conducting Topography (Land Surveying, stake out, cadastral surveying, etc.), Structural and Hydraulics studies.
